What is Urology?

Urological Health
Urology is a medical and surgical specialty devoted to maintaining the health and treating problems of the male and female genitourinary tract. Urologists do many things. We advise people on how to maintain kidney and bladder health such as preventing kidney stones. We help men with problems of sexual function such as ED, infertility and low testosterone. Urologists diagnose and treat cancers of the genitourinary tract such as prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancer.
Urinary tract infections are very common and, sometimes, get to the point that you might need the expertise of a urologist. Men with prostate problems often need to see a urologist. Overactive bladder, incontinence, bedwetting, interstitial cystitis and many other conditions fall within the specialty of urology. Your primary care provider can advise you as to whether or not you need to see a urologist.
